Countywide Voting Centers Countywide Polling Place Program Application

A letter of application is required by the Secretary of State that details all requirements have been met by the county. Harris County’s application includes information on the public hearings that were held, a communication and accessibility plan, information on the selection of Election Judges and Alternate Judges, and the county’s use of e-poll books and DRE voting machines.

In our commitment to transparency, we have provided below our plan that offers additional details than those required by the Secretary of State. Our comprehensive plan contains information on which elections will use the Countywide Polling Place Program, the Community Advisory Committee, equipment needs for the next 5 years, and other pertinent information.

Countywide Voting Centers County Polling Place Program Implementation

During the May 2019 Joint Election, Harris County implemented a Countywide Polling Place Program for the first time.

A study was conducted for Harris County by Robert M. Stein, Lena Gohlman Fox Professor of Political Science, Rice University, and Elizabeth F. Vann, Director, Center for Civic Leadership, Rice University, with generous financial support from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation. Read the results of the first study here.
