IDENTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR VOTING
IN THE DECEMBER 10, 2016 RUNOFF ELECTIONS

* According to the Interim Federal Court Order
You must now present one of the following forms of photo ID when voting in person.
NOTE: Providing a Texas Driver’s License or Texas Personal ID expedites the voter qualification process.

Drivers License Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS); current or have expired no more than 4 years
Election Identification Certificate Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS; current or have expired no more than 4 years
CHL Texas license to carry a handgun issued by DPS; current or have expired no more than 4 years
Naturalization Certificate United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
State ID Texas personal identification card issued by DPS; current or have expired no more than 4 years
Military ID U. S. military identification card containing the person’s photograph; current or have expired no more than 4 years
Passport United States passport; current or have expired no more than 4 years

Do not possess and cannot reasonably obtain one of these IDs? Fill out a declaration at the polls explaining why and bring one of the following supporting documents.

  • Valid Voter Registration Certificate
  • Certified Birth Certificate (must be an original)
  • Copy of or original Bank Statement
  • Copy of or original Government check or paycheck
  • Copy of or original current Utility Bill
  • Copy of or original government document with your name and an address (original required if it contains a photograph)

Voters who are unable to provide an acceptable form of photo ID or an acceptable supporting document may vote provisionally.  Voters will need to sign a provisional affidavit and will have 6 days after the election to cure their ballot by bringing approved photo identification to the Voter Registrar.

EXEMPTION: Voters with a disability may apply with the county voter registrar for a permanent exemption to showing ID at the polls. Voters with a religious objection to being photographed or voters who do not have a ID due to certain natural disasters may apply for a temporary exemption to showing ID at the polls.
